Located in the former George Washington Hotel, once home to many storied writers, musicians and creatives, the Freehand New York features five restaurant and bars, a custom art partnership with Bard College, and design by Roman and Williams. All units feature a private bathroom with bathrobes, slippers and Argan amenities. I liked that when I complained that the room was very small and not at all like the picture they showed on booking.com they immediately changed the room and gave me a bigger one! I appreciated it a lot

The room they gave us was much smaller and very different than the one on booking.com! It had a wall in front of the bed( unlike the picture) and my son who happens to be very tall had his feet touching the wall

Price, location, general vibe. Great value for a hotel that is not a generic cookie-cutter hotel. Location is great if you're comfortable with the subway which you should be!
Negatives:
Most of staff seemed like even very limited interaction was a chore. Bathrooms tiny even by NY standards. No in room coffee or room service a bit of a negative.

If you like bright rooms not for you because our room didn’t not have many lights so it was in the darker side. Worst thing was every time we walked into our room it smelled like sewage so we had to leave the window cracked our whole stay or else it was unbearable. So if your looking at this place or spending a few extra dollars somewhere else I’d suggest somewhere else if you don’t want to smell sewage.

ALL of the staff were really friendly & always helpful. I loved how they've kept the charm of the original hotel. Very well done. I loved the design/decor of my room. Complimentary water really appreciated. Best location. I walked everywhere.

The location was fantastic! The hotel itself is also spectacular, with character, bars chillout areas and restaurants. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and accommodating
Negatives:
There was a lot of noise outside, due to construction and traffic. If the windows were double paned and could cancel the noise outside, that would have made our sleep a bit better
