Crystal River State Archeological Site

Crystal River State Archeological Site is a 14 acre six-mound complex that was built by a cultural group called the pre-Columbian mound builders. It is considered one of the longest contiunally occupied sites in the state of Florida and is located on the west coast. For 1,600 years, it was once an imposing prehistoric ceremonial center for Native Americans beginning around 200 B.C.. Leashed dogs are permitted on the paved trail but are not allowed in the visitor center or on the mounds.
