While Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve is a pet friendly site, there are restrictions to be aware of. Pets are not allowed in Chalmette Cemetery or on the Barataria Preserve trails. They must never be left unattended on the grounds, and pet parents are not permitted to leave them alone in cars. Pets are welcome in the parking lots, at the Chalmette Battlefield and on the visitor center deck -- just make sure they are leashed and under your control.
