Superb
Positives:
Breakfast was ok. Needed more options on the menu same as for the dinner menu. Not really kid friendly in food choices.
Negatives:
I didn't like the options on the menu at the restaurants

The hotel was very nice....
Positives:
Hotel room was gorgeous and had great facilities.
Negatives:
Area was not great. Lots of deprivation in and around area. Not the best place to stop on the way to/from Yosemite.

Pleasant
Positives:
Our room was cozy and comfortable, the bed was just right and the furnishings are attractive new and fresh. There was a record player and records.
Negatives:
Street parking at arrival was a challenge - though we had a space in the parking garage overnight.

A quiet, safe, luxurious room...

Positives:
Best breakfast that I've had in a while. Fresh local greens and very interesting menu. Staff was attentive and delightful. Historical building that was comfortable, interesting architecture, with a modern feel.
Negatives:
The self parking was limited, and there was no choice but to use the valet service. Valet was very good. I was just hoping to have more options and more easy access to my car. But really, in the end that turned out to be fine too.

Wonderful stay at El Capitan!

Very good
Positives:
The look;the hotel is very stylish and comfortably elegant. Y to he rooms are pretty and mine had the whimsical touch of a record player and antique phone.
Negatives:
The bad men treatment of this guest by the staff and management. My ability to stay and for my employer to utilize their govt rate was questioned and slyly mocked. I actually was fearful from the behavior and posturing directed at me. It was truly one of the most disturbing (either racist or homophobic) incidents I have ever experienced.
Review
My stay was emotionally uncomfortable.
Positives:
This is one of the best hotel experiences in the Yosemite Gateway, and local business hotel in the whole area. The architectural features from the rebuilding -totally- an old hotel to the highest modern quality of just recently rebuilt-charming, warmth, friendly, large enough for privacy, and cozy enough in the wonderful Rainbird restaurant. In the week we stayed -happily, peacefully, and joyfully with the design, colors, upscale very expensive amenities, perfect lighting, very expensive features--and one that's the best in any hotel in the world; black interior walk in showers with 1 door on shower part, but handle for water is without a door where you'd step in; the floor of the shower was special, no slip, the bathroom with upscale floors, the rooms are spacious, inclusive of olden days portable record player with 50's hit records. The robes are unique. The bar is friendly, serves food too. The hallways are old-fashioned wide with wall to wall carpeting in a Persian runner in cranberry. All in all, this is the place anybody going anywhere at any time in Merced, should try. The Staff is friendly, generous, and will talk if you want to. I HOPE YOU DO NOT UP THE PRICE. Folks won't go there, the fun is over.
