Mostly clean and in a good location. The room was a great size for the five of us.
Negatives:
It wasnt as clean as I thought it would be. There was some stuff on the ceiling and around the room that wasnt the cleanest. The pool was freezing cold, I thought maybe it would have been heated.

Positives:
The staff at reception was friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was very large with a comfortable sitting area and a tv with Chromecast. The bed was also large and comfortable. The bathroom was very adequate, not too big but with enough room. The hotel is well situated along one of the main roads and a short drive away from downtown and many different restaurants. Despite its location the street noise was minimal.
Negatives:
Free bottles of water in the room would have been appreciated (and provided in Home2 Carlsbad). The breakfast felt quite minimal and many options were already gone by the time we came down to eat (still well within the operating hours of the breakfast). The fridge in the room made a lot of noise so we turned it off.
