We liked the room we got at Canada's Best Value Inn and Suites Castlegar as room 130 had a hallway entrance and an exterior entrance so it was easy to load and unload things from the van into our hotel room from the outdoor entrance to 130 behind our van. My mom likes the motel style exterior entrances on the first floor. And that we have a hall exit as well. We recognized the light fixture in the main floor lobby area by the front desk My parents have the same one in their house! They have 3 of them. Got a room for $140!
The sliding door we used to block noise from the first floor hallway by 130 and 131 when we had friends over from Trail. It worked really well. Big room. We usually book a tiny 2 double room with access to the indoor pool across the street at the Sandman. First time at this hotel and the Canada's Best Value Hotel chain. two friends have stayed at other Canada's Best Value Inn and suites locations and recommend we try it. We will return!
Comfortable Queen beds. We are looking at returning to this hotel again this summer as it is affordable for the one night we need a hotel room on the Friday night to split the long 7 hour drive from Jaffray BC home to Kelowna. After a week of therapy in the East Kootenays.
Very good access to Hwy 3 for return trip to Kelowna. I need a tub that is low and easy to get into which this hotel had. We never used it as we had to pack up the van and leave for the 3 hr trip home. And never got to try Monte Carlo Grill. Next time. We like the key card drop box. We look forward to trying the tub too.
Negatives:
The room numbers were tiny gold numbers on a red background on a gray door and were hard to read. Please look at updating these to larger easier to see numbers. Friends of mine have their condo unit # on the door going down. In big numbers. Another friend has it on the wall on a plaque beside their door.
Or on the wall on the inside corridor and big numbers on the door to the outside.
The Sandman across the street we stayed at on the way out had 111 in white on a black background in a square on the wall beside the door. We stayed at that hotel for three years.
The entire Sandman hotel the room numbers is like 111 is. Our room (130) had a squeaky bathroom door hinge that needs to get looked at. The Shaw (Rogers) tv remote volume button didn't work and the tv took a while to turn on. We had to use the buttons on the tv for volume.

1st Stay at Canada Best...
Positives:
Location was good. Staff was nice and helpful. Room was acceptable. Our room had two beds and would be a little tight for more than two people. A single bed unit of the same size would be certainly more spacious. We are econo-travellers. This was not the best but certainly not the worst place we stayed in on our ski trip.
Negatives:
Price was a bit high for what we got. But there are not a lot of beds in this town so the price did not overly surprise me. The bathroom could use a little paint and work, it showed wear and tear.

Breakfast was crap. Fake whip cream on the French toast. I ordered ham after asking the server if it was bone in ham instead of processed. She guaranteed me it was not processed. I asked 3 x. It was processed but I couldn’t return it due to the fact that the server never ever once came back to do a quality check. She was very ignorant and dismissive. The hotel advertised a kitchenette. What a joke. It’s a microwave and a mini fridge. We requested a plate and it was a big deal for them to find one. This hotel seems more concerned with money than customer service or going over and above. The toilet was on such a slant that if you sit back you can’t put your feet flat on the floor. The floor seems tilted or something. And the walls are so thin you feel like you’re sitting with your neighbors
