Staff not nice charged $100 to check in 3 hours early when rooms were totally available. Smelled so bad in hotel. No help with bags. No sign where main lobby was Total mess of a hotel

Location and facilities are nice for a visit to Berkeley

Rooms are dated and dirty. The couch had patches from years and the desk chair had melted chocolate pieces from prior gusts that we not cleaned and stuck on the furniture. My son was in our room and we needed an extra bed to be made, they never did it even after we repeatedly asked and finally a person came late in the evening and just handed us over the sheets to make the bed.

Negatives:
Hotel needs to have a fruit welcome basket in rooms. Slippers. All eating facilities closed by 11pm there are no vending machines, no room service. Should have free coffee in lobby - at least in morning. These are basic for an aspiring 5 star hotel.

Positives:
We live locally and stay overnight 3-4x per year to use the pool, spa, bar, restaurant and always delights. Our last visit we did not pay parking, but we were charged this visit which seemed unnecessary since there were plenty of empty spaces. I'd rather have given that money to the bartender. Otherwise everything met expectations!

Very nice reunion with old work chums
Positives:
The rooms are inviting, the grounds are beautiful and the pool, spa, and tennis courts give kids / families a lot to do. The workout facilities are excellent as well. Room was very quiet. And they open a bottle of champagne with a samurai sword at 5PM daily. What else do you need!?
Negatives:
Friends who visited had to pay for parking which probably ought to have a free period.
