Sunset inn
Positives:
The hotel and its location used to be ok, years ago, when it was still a Days Inn, and I visited it whenever I was in Orange County. I actually liked it, because it is close to downtown.
Negatives:
There is no breakfast - I guess they do not serve any since Covid! You cannot even enter the lobby room - there is a glass window with a cutout through which you communicate to the receptionist. Also a leftover from Covid times. My "renovated" room did not have a night stand bed light, only very bright overhead lamps built into the ceiling. Very uncomfortable. I did not dare to switch on the air conditioning/heater because it looked broken, see photo. Also, there were zero coat hangers available on the rack. Staying there feels unsafe. Noisy guests at night. A man was using the hotel parking lot as a repair shop for his motorcycle. An old lady stood in front of my room door and was smoking marihuana when I arrived. When I arrived on another day, a police car was in the hotel parking lot and officers were escorting a blonde woman from 2nd floor to their car.

Run-down property
Positives:
The staff is AMAZING. The owner needs to reconsider what the staff is paid and give EVERYONE a substantial increase.
Negatives:
The owner needs to quite a few things. Not big price fixes that would greatly improve the property and positively impact the bottom line
Negatives:
Burn holes in mattresses and through blankets the room smelled of smoke bed was loud and uncomfortable
