Exceptional
Positives:
Location suited our purpose; staff was polite.
Negatives:
We were in town for a concert at the Forum and decided to try the Westin LAX (as we love the Westin Bay View in San Diego). Overall, it was a major disappointment. While the hotel was conveniently located for our needs and the staff was polite, we will not be returning; primarily for the following reasons:
1. The room was incredibly basic for the price. Worn and tired carpeting and furniture; even the surface of the entry door was scuffed and scratched. The lighting in the main/bedroom area was very poor. Quite simply, the room was not worth the price.
2. The door to the bathroom automatically swings shut – you cannot leave the door opened or cracked at all (without shoving a washcloth underneath). While decorative in its ambient presentation, the lighting in the bathroom is entirely inadequate for shaving, makeup application, etc. Additionally, I understand that a motion sensor light in the bathroom is necessary from an energy-saving standpoint; however, the light should not automatically go off WHILE SOMEONE IS ACTIVELY USING THE SHOWER! This is exactly what happened to my husband - who happens to be legally blind.
3. Not only is the valet cost exorbitant (even by Los Angeles standards – and I live in SoCal, so I have a wide basis of comparison), they make no allowances whatsoever for handicapped guests; even upon presenting proof of disability. The hotel points the finger at the “third party company” while stating that there is nothing that they can do and the people with whom we spoke who are purportedly part of the “third party company” said that there was nothing that they could do. Self-parking is located too far from the entrance for a legally blind cardiac patient and we had no choice other than to pay the $84.00 for valet parking. Concessions should be make for handicapped guests.
We will not be returning.
