Location was good as we had business to attend to downtown. The gym was well equipped and maintained - really good. Overall the rooms were ok and functional.
Negatives:
The hotel policy states that rooms will be cleaned etc. only upon request. Ok. But even though I did, nobody came. My request was simply ignored. When staying 5 nights paying close to 400 USD per night, I would have expected that rooms would be serviced as it usually is the case in almost any hotel I stayed so far. So this was really poor. Then, the hotel doesn’t offer any breakfast, which we knew, so strange for a 4 star hotel, but ok. There was free coffee in the lobby, though during breakfast hours. Nice idea to offer that, but the coffee was beyond bad. I tried to have a cappuccino, but there was only hot water pouring into my cup and on top really thin and poor kind of coffee. Embarrassing. Better not to offer anything then.

Positives:
Just returned from San Diego where I stayed at the Bristol Hotel before leaving on a cruise. It's close to the airport and the cruise port so I recommend it for those 2 reasons. It's also close to many restaurants and a CVS to pick up things you need like drinking water. My room was very clean and had everything I needed. I had an issue with noisy neighbors and called the front desk and they acted promptly. Nine young people piled out of the room! No surprise about the noise! The woman at the front desk (Sandra) was the real highlight. My friend became ill & we needed the room cleaned when it was convenient for her. Sandra made sure all went well with that. She was compassionate and kind and very helpful in many ways. I would definitely stay there again.

Positives:
Hotel was in a great location with the bars and restaurants of Gaslamp district and trolley stop only a couple of mins walk away.
The room was well equipped with a coffee machine, fridge, safe and large TV, even the windows opened which is a rarity in hotels these days. The beds were so comfy, you literally just melted into it which was bliss after a days sightseeing.
Negatives:
The only bad thing was that the toilet paper was a tad on the thin side. The parking was pricey but to be fair all the hotels around the area seemed to charge the same...captive market I guess.

4th time staying at the Bristol, rooms are great, clean, coffee available at room, location is very centered, everything is close by.
Negatives:
The staff at the night shift was really rude, (04/27 around midnight) other than that, the staff at other hours were extremely kind.

No vending machines no food on property besides a few bags of chips and some popcorn. Housekeeping only came if you requested it. Went to “happy hour” and they had no cocktail list no wine list. They barely had any alcohol. The bartender Bob was awesome but he is working with very, very little.
