There appeared to be a generator or air conditioning unit just outside the window of the bedroom which was making a good deal of noise and the window did not close properly so it sounded even louder

Room was super clean and the right size for a solo traveller. I had more than enough space including a separate dressing room! The hotel was attentive to my request for a quiet room and while I had no view to speak of, I slept soundly at night! Location was good on Powell Street, not far from downtown, Union Square and Chinatown. It is not the prettiest part of town but it is convenient. It is quite safe in the area after dark - not as bad as some other streets. It is quite close to public transport.
Negatives:
The bedding was just a little strange as two sheets were used as a duvet cover. I am not sure if this is normal in America. I really cannot think of anything else I didn't like.

Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The remodel was very tasteful and current. Location right off Union Square was perfect.
Negatives:
Not much. The only thing I noticed is some of the finish work on the remodeled room was mixed quality. Some of the trim was off, old moulding had clearly just been painted over rather than repaired. But this was a minor issue and I most people won't even notice (I work in construction).

The room was spacious and nice, the bed - super-comfortable. I also very much appreciated having reusable bottles and access to the drinking (and quite tasty) water 24/7 on the floor, as well as a coffee maker in the room. Staff was very nice. Location is also pretty good, with the proximity to public transportation.
