Except the aging of the actual building (public spaces)the service, cleanliness, food at the lobby restaurant exceeded my expectations.

Elevator floor cracked, paints falling off, sofa in the room old & passed the useful life. Basically the infrastructure of the building.

Friendly staff and updated bathroom.
Positives:
The highlights included the staff - from the amazing greeting upon our arrival (from Anita in particular), to the ambiance, cleanliness of the lobby, infused water station and prepackaged cookies. The dining area was another highlight. The seating and service in the dining room was wonderful. It was almost 5 star service even though it was a buffet, there were wait staff and omelettes made to order. Another highlight was the cleaning staff, who did a great job of making sure the lobby area, elevators, floors and bathrooms were cleaned and our room was turned over and ready for our return each night. Extra towels were no problem. The location wasn't horrible and the grounds were decent for a walk and recovery from the smell in the first room. We sat outside on the entry patio for a few hours. It was very comfortable and the free parking was a plus, in fact, the location is only 7 miles from Lauderdale by the Sea. A great beach area with nice eateries and seating areas and in general, quite pedestrian.
Negatives:
I was disappointed at the quality of the attention to detail in the rooms. The headboard was torn and discolored, the carpet was matted and stained, the sofa was of the kind, quality and cleanliness of a Days Inn, Red Roof or Travel Lodge (worn, discolored and smelly). The granite countertop in the bathroom of this room had a gash in it. More than normal wear and tear and could have proven to be a problem for my travel vanity bag had I placed it there. Finally, the smell in the room, although not pervasive, after 20 minutes of trying to sit there I began to have breathing issues either from mold or animal dander (or a combination) as I am very allergic to both. We were able to switch rooms, however the sofa seems to be a staple resident in the hotel complete with discoloration, and the headboard had a similar tear and attempt at repair, we passed
the five days in the alternative room.
