Negatives: Overall, an awful experience . We were excited for our first visit at the Starling after seeing the photos of the stylish lounge but we left feeling really disappointed. Things started off badly. The woman who checked us in was rude and surly. Then we got into our room and were annoyed to find just one coffee and water bottles costing $2 each (I travel frequently and a 4 star hotel typically includes a free bottle of water.) I was just about to phone reception to ask for more coffee for the morning when I received a text from MacKenzie asking how my stay was. That was appreciated as I was able to order more coffee and it came promptly. Things got much worse though because we kept hearing really loud noises, which we thought were coming from the next room bathroom. We hoped it was something that would pass which was a mistake. We should have immediately gone down to ask for a new room. It continued all through the night--a loud banging every few minutes that really disturbed our sleep. We were in a even worse mood after taking a shower and finding no shower gel in the bottle. The next day we explained the problem which they obviously knew about as they moved us. Our new room was much better--high up and facing the park. And most importantly: quiet. The man on the desk was also lovely -friendly and helpful. We would have left on a higher note but we made the big mistake of having breakfast in the hotel. This was an awful experience. The female server was so rude. I had to go up and ask for coffee and then go up and ask for milk and I also had to go up and get my own bottle of water. The quality of food was like a holiday inn. We were told it was $26 when we arrived but the bill was $29 with an obligatory 20% tip. I honestly wouldn't have minded if the service had been minimally friendly. The only good thing this hotel has going for it is the location and lounge and a couple of lovely staff who seem to want to do their job.

Negatives: I didn’t like that the initial room that I had. It had clearly not been cleaned. The beds were made, but the floors were dirty, the sink had not been cleaned, and there were hairs on the toilet seat. I also didn’t like that no information is provided about the restaurant on the second floor, other than the hours that are posted on a poster in the lobby. Also, all food ceases at 11pm, so no ordering from the lobby restaurant or room service.
