Positives: I would not stay anywhere else in Detroit

Positives: Rooms are too small for the price. I has champagne service and that was not in the when I checked in. There was no sleepers for the room.

Positives: The location was perfect for any activity at any of the 3 major arenas.

Positives: The staff was exceptionally welcoming and kind. We arrived while an entire bridal party and guests were trying to check in between the wedding and the reception - and while we were willing to step aside and let them all get checked in - the staff insisted on helping all of us at once - and it was very efficient. The glass of champagne during check was a nice touch as well. Anytime we had questions during our stay everyone was eager to help. Seriously a wonderful experience!

Positives: Checked into the Shinola last minute when business required an overnight stay in Detroit. The hotel is lovely, with beautiful decor, and Will checked me in with the utmost kindness and warmth. However, I was abruptly woken from a sound sleep at 2:00 a.m. by very loud guests in the hallway. They proceeded to enter a nearby room, blasting music that vibrated through my room while multiple guests spoke and laughed loudly. At 2:30 a.m., when the noise had not subsided, I called the front desk. The attendant assured me that security would be sent up to handle the situation. Shortly afterward, at 2:30 a.m., the front desk called me back to check if the situation had improved. I explained that nothing had changed. I was informed that security had knocked on the door but could not gain entry because the guests answered, and the attendant believed the issue was resolved. I made it clear that the disturbance was still ongoing. At 3:30 a.m., I heard knocking at my door again, and the music and noise continued unabated until 4:30 a.m. I had to wake at 7:30 a.m. to leave for meetings at 9:00 a.m., leaving me exhausted. I called the front desk to complain about the poor handling of the situation. I spoke with the same attendant, who apologized and offered me a late checkout. Unfortunately, since I had to work that day (Friday), this was little consolation. I explained that it is the hotel's responsibility to manage unruly guests and to follow up on complaints until the issue is resolved. Having stayed hundreds of nights in hotels, I have never experienced such a situation and was very disappointed.

Positives: Our first stay was right after they opened and we loved it. It has aged well, quality of the decor is a huge factor. Valet and Service were perfect. Very clean. Food was outstanding.
