Location and charming architecture
Negatives:
The water pipes were strangely arranged (with shower handles inside and a separate set outside the shower) and the outer handles leaked constantly so the bathroom floor was frequently flooded. The shower water oscillated between scalding hot and freezing cold and it was almost comical trying to find a way that worked. We laughed about it and my partner and I are pretty low-maintenance, but we definitely could not recommend this hotel to anyone else without giving them fair warning (and would not recommend to friends as a functional shower is a basic expectation).

Easy check in, clean, elegant room, nicely appointed, welcoming staff. Close to all amenities on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Accessible to busses, subway, taxis. Walkable and safe area. Would recommend!

The location is wonderful, particularly for people who appreciate the architecture and atmosphere of Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The hotel’s access to public transportation is excellent, with buses practically at the front door and the subway just two short blocks away.
Negatives:
Although the public spaces in the hotel are handsome, I was unimpressed with my room. It was certainly comfortable and quite spacious for a solo traveler, but the grey walls were drab and a bit gloomy in a room that received little natural light. I realized this color scheme is currently fashionable, but a room looking out on an airshaft would be more inviting and comfortable painted in warmer colors.
