W New York - Union Square

Negatives: During my recent stay at the W New York - Union Square, I encountered several issues that detracted from the overall experience. Firstly, while the hotel was operational, access to common areas was notably limited, with only the reception and gym available. For a hotel of this caliber, such restrictions are disappointing. Additionally, some room lights were non-functional, and despite the hotel's commendable emphasis on environmental sustainability—evident in their approach to water bottles—the windows were poorly insulated, leading to significant energy inefficiency. Upon arrival, there was no coffee available in the machine, which was an unexpected inconvenience. To compound matters, I was mistakenly overcharged for minibar usage upon checkout. These issues suggest a need for the hotel to address maintenance and service quality to meet the standards expected by their guests.

Negatives: - no onsite dining - noisy on the lower floors (on the Park Ave South side)

Negatives: For a new renovation, just completed the toilet seat was falling off, and the shower door is a bit cumbersome to close so water leaks. But house keeping for daily service plus turn down was fantastic.

Negatives: House keeping with several issues: dirty bed leaning, used coffee capsules left as new and lack of proper cleaning on bathroom.No formal concierge desk: transportation was arranged through employee contact. Room pictures at booking .com show a full suite for my room (Fantastic Suite) but a junior suite was provided instead, remaining as it is, even after front desk was questioned.

Negatives: The rooms were not what I expected, and badly designed. 1) green flashing light on the smoke detectors lit up the room at night 2) air heating was LOUD 3) cables for things that should have been hidden were on view and unplugged. 4) cupboards didn’t open properly because of the door closer on the entrance door 5) no tile warmers so when you went to the bathroom the floor is freezing. 6) no night lights in the bathroom (these are in the W in Budapest) 7) the curtains didn’t really block out the light. 8) the lighting was badly designed and not intuitive. This year I’ve stayed at 3 W hotels and this was the worst designed room, a real let down.

Negatives: No restaurant, breakfast was rationed. No microwave, refrigerator or regular coffee maker in the room.

Negatives: No F&B and the pastries the served were cold for breakfast that the offered on the lobby.

Negatives: Elevator broke while we were there. Only 1 working elevator during majority of the stay, but only was difficult once to get an elevator. Staff accompanied us to side elevators afterwards.
