Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Astoria an IHG Hotel

Negatives: The facility is run down compared to other Holiday Inn Express. They are in the process of remodeling. Elevators were not working some of the time. Unfortunately, for both the homeless and the motel visitors, on the path behind the hotel there are many homeless people, some sleeping under the bridge. The birds on the bridge which is an environmental problem causing the deteriorating of the bridge paint, either were causing us allergies when windows were open or the room which was to be pet free was not. We both had allergies and the problems were exacerbated when we entered the room. They lamp on the left side of the bed would not turn off and had to be unplugged to turn off.

Negatives: First, after receiving my card and parking pass, we went to the room but I had looked at the number on the parking pass by accident and went to that number room down the hall. So my key shouldn’t have worked, but it did! So we were in that other room unpacking when I saw the key card holder showing the proper room number…. Why does the key work for multiple rooms? Does it work for all rooms? Reported it but nothing was done, didn’t want to make a scene. But seems like a security issue to say the least. Pretty rough part of town. The East end of the Astoria boardwalk may have been a much nicer area to stay. Breakfast was not as good as other hotel breakfasts but ultimately was OK. The other thing I didn’t like was that upon entering BOTH of those rooms, they were both set to cooling and quite cold. When I changed it to heating and to normal room temperature it sets off a ton of dust and gross dirty smell from the heat pump unit. It went away after 30 mins or so but still. Kind of weird. Room was tight and small for double queen, small windows. Dated decor.

Negatives: The overall room cost was much to high for the quality of the hotel/room, I assume we were paying for the view.

Negatives: There is some bridge construction noise. Some homeless camping between hotel and river.

Negatives: We had a ceiling water leak. We let the staff know in the morning about it. Nothing was done about it. When the room above went to shower that night at 10:00 we had a lot of water coming through the ceiling. Leaked for hours. We needed to get our kids to sleep early for a soccer tournament the next day. That didn’t happen. All they did was give us. 15 percent off of one of our nights. Will not use them ever again.

Negatives: Expensive. Like, it’s not a boutique five star, it’s Holiday Inn… also the breakfast was really bad. All pre-packaged holiday inn stuff, nothing local or decent aside from yogurt. Coffee was not good. If you’re gonna charge me over $400 for the night and advertise free breakfast then at least have some fresh fruit. You ran out of pancake mix the day prior and couldn’t even go get more?! No, of course not, they don’t sell Holiday Inn brand pancake mix in Astoria.
