The room was absolutely disgusting, I've stayed in $5 hostels that we're much better maintained. This had hair, gum, sticky liquids, pills, foodstuffs all over the room. It was obvious no one had cleaned it since the last guests left. Now - if they had just forgotten to clean it and could fix that, it would have been fine. Instead they said there was nothing they could do - housekeeping was gone, there were no other rooms available, they couldn't even get me a box of Clorox wipes or similar so I could clean it myself. The only thing they did manage to do was give me two towels so that I could attempt to clean it myself (without any cleaning agents).
They did however charge me full price for the experience of sleeping in a stained and gross bed in a room covered with someone else's leftovers.
If they couldn't get the room cleaned, they shouldn't be renting it out.

Maintenance is way overdue on an old building. Room 505 bathroom is particularly in need of work. The tub says 1950s, and the faucet leaks - judging from the stain on the tub, it has been leaking for a long time. Based on the noise level, the exhaust fan is badly in need of replacing. Caulking around fixtures looks like it was done by a 3rd grader. Tattered carpet at room entrance. The a/c and heat unit controls do not work properly. The entire building has served well, but is definitely in need of an overhaul.
