The foyer and breakfast room were nice. The late afternoon staff was nice.
Negatives:
When I got there, the front desk staff told me that I was booked through Priceline (not), that I was only booked for 1 night (not), that they took my payment before I arrived (the documentation said that I would pay when I got there), the over $400 CDN was for only 1 night (not), and that they could not make any changes to my reservation, changes could only be made through Priceline (not). I thankfully had a print out of my booking.com reservation and showed it to the front desk clerk and said I would stay at the front desk and call whoever was necessary (police, media etc) until she accepted my reservation as outlined and gave me my room. She stammered around and blamed her computer but finally gave me a room key. I did not see her again after our encounter. I don't usually book with 3rd party booking companies as I don't fully trust them. Then when this happened, I felt convinced that this hotel was trying to take my money and not give me a room. This may not have been the case, the front desk person may simply have been incompetent. I don't think I will ever book through booking.com again. I am a senior and enjoy hassle free travel and this was not a hassle free experience.
And then there was my room! The room was very worn, tired and dirty. The carpet at the entry was taped to the tile floor with electrical tape, I did not sit on the sofa or the chair because they were filthy. The bed was clean but I still checked the mattress for bedbugs/bedbug eggs and I did not find any. The bath room counter and sink had been painted and the paint was peeling off. The shower rod was barely holding on and I could not close the shower curtain all the was because it would slide away (it was leaning that far down). When I looked out my window onto a roof made of oriented strand board, it was filled with broken glass, dirty underwear and trash.
