Me and my husband booked a 1 night stay we came from Milwaukee to Madison to visit friends we came in checked in everything seemed ok than we leave go to our friends house hung out come back go to bed the minute we go to sleep at about 1 maybe 2am our smoke alarm goes off in our room we are sleep why is it going off the service desk calls us and says it showing our alarm is going off I told him we didn’t know why we are sleep he said he will reset it about 30 minutes later it went off again and again kept us up all night it finally stopped around 640am then someone came knocking on the door saying the smoke alarm alarm going off and it’s only our room I think someone made it go off because of our race because why was it only our room and we are sleep and it was happening all night and how can it be reset from the front desk? We travel a lot on our free time and we never had this problem I think they wanted us out! It was so scary and very upsetting

Bad experience
Positives:
Clean room and bathroom with plenty of towels. The breakfast had warm eggs, sausage patties, biscuits, and cinnamon rolls. There was also cereals, fruit, juices, coffee, etc. There was a nice big room for breakfast so we didn't feel like we had to rush to make room for other people.
Negatives:
The employee at front desk seemed unsure when checking us in. Not sure if he was new, but no one was helping him and it took quite some time. We had a room above the mechanical room and there was a loud steady noise throughout the night. Also, the toilet did not flush properly.

The breakfast was just like any American chain hotel, decent, but not great. Cheap plastic and paper products should be eliminated.
Negatives:
Our television remote wasn't working properly, meaning we could not change channels, etc. The man from the front desk came up and did a quick fix, but it was intermittent at best after that. In my opinion, we should have been given a new and working remote. It was definitely a pain.

Positives:
The hotel is pretty typical of a Holiday Inn Express. The lobby and front desk area is pleasant and nicely decorated. We found the front desk staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. Our room on the first floor was large, clean, and had ample power outlets/USB ports. The ceilings/floors are not well sound proofed, so we could hear the kids above us running around early in the morning. The location in Verona is nice in that there are ample places to eat. Big parking lot with good lighting.
Negatives:
The breakfast was pretty awful. After two tries, we decided to just eat out.
